Designing Conceptual Frameworks for Qualitative Research Studies

The conceptual framework is the investigative architecture for a qualitative study that includes three components: the theoretical, methodological, and epistemological. This workshop provides an overview of qualitative research design with the conceptual framework as its template. Participants will explore the development of a study about identity, using the three-part template to compose the theoretical (literature review), methodological (genre of qualitative research and research questions), and the epistemological (data collection and analysis). The conceptual framework is then plotted as a visual diagram to illustrate the initial entrée into the study. The workshop is targeted to graduate students and novices to qualitative research.

Workshop content is derived from Saldaña’s methods texts including the co-authored Qualitative Data Analysis: A Methods Sourcebook (4th edition, 2020, Sage Publishing), and Saldaña & Omasta’s Qualitative Research: Analyzing Life (2nd edition, 2022, Sage Publishing).
